Capsule review: Wayne Shorter - Juju (1964)

Sideman of substance Shorter presents 6 more of his own compositions with a trio of Coltrane alumni. Themes are worthy, though none with the effortless melodicism to make up a standard. Still mighty fine playing. McCoy Tyner on piano is a joy and he gets plenty of space in this one horn band. Shorter offers intense explorations.
