Capsule review: James Yorkston & the Athletes - Moving up country (2002)

The new bohemians of the early 21st century grew beards, played bouzoukis and sang melancholy song about ancestral Fife-on-Thyme. A sure sign nightfall for the rock'n'roll era was looming. Yorkston is musically more elegant than most - 'St Patrick' is a pearl - so listening is never a chore. But I tire of diary excerpts long before the 50 minute mark. Shape up, James, never trust a beard.
