Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks: 142 - 2014

Early 2014 tour
Golden age/Debra/Gold soundz (medley)

'Thank you. Sorry. Thank you.'

More breathtaking trainwrecks from the encore section of the 2014 shows. There are several videos like this on the 'net, the Jicks demolishing various rock'n'roll staples ('American woman', 'War pigs', 'In the year 2525', 'Eeny meeny tiny teeny yellow polka dot bikini', so on). With any luck they remember the intro.
Well, that's not fair - they've got remarkable musical memory. I couldn't recall half the lyrics they draw from the ether (or various iPhones). But that doesn't mean this is a particularly rewarding musical endeavour. I'm passing most of that stuff by.

Not this one though. This one is a shambles. Lurches from heartfelt cover (all of two lines before they're off into Stephen's favourite part: the solo, natch) to falsetto ad-libs loosely based on Beck's 'Debra' (very loosely), Jimi Hendrix guitar jokes, injected 'Gold soundz' lyrics. And so on. Truly awe inspiring.

All hail the sultan of slack.
